Press Coverage of SoonerCon 20

SoonerCon 20: Heroes and Villains was held June 3-4-5, 2011, at the downtown Sheraton.  Our writer GOH was Tim Powers; our artist GOH was Darrell K Sweet.  And as you can read from the recap, we raised over a thousand bucks for Infant Crisis Services.

A tip of the propeller beanie to The Oklahoman's Matthew Price, a longtime friend of the con!
And you know who's in the Gazette photo!
Thanks for stopping by!

SoonerCon 3 Publicity and News

SoonerCon 3 was held October 16-17-18, 1987, at the Central Plaza.

BTW, did you know that STAR OKC ran an ad on the first episode of ST:TNG?  I wonder if somebody (Yes, I'm talking to you, Mister Nemecek!) has a copy on video?  The club had raised about $150 for the ad, but I don't know the final cost.

Somebody tell me who created the Warthog Gazette?  Surely there's no reason to keep it a secret any longer?
The above photos ran in the Sunday paper.

Other tidbits:  In the November GG, Prez Mike Hodge reports, “rumor has it that attendance was well over 500 people.”  However, it's a documented fact that SoonerCon 3 raised $1600 for its charity, the Oklahoma Pediatric Cancer Association.
That's it for this trip back in time!  See you around the galaxy.

The February, 2001 GALACTIC GAZETTE

This wild-n-weird cover art by Tamara Hodge.  For some reason it felt necessary that I surround her perfectly fine masthead with the masthead I was using already.  Petty, huh?
Scooter was Prez and Webhead, and Mr Enthusiasm did all the other stuff.  I don't know who provided the above list of sites, but Gerald Burton use to supply them.
Hats off to Neal Hallford (and other folks)!

Tell me, is Professor S O'Terrick another one of those relics better left unmentioned?

Flooby Reviews!  Now we got a GG, baby!

And as February 2001 fades into the closet of history, I beg you to support your local and present-day manifestation of fandom, whatever you perceive it to be - hairy thunderer, or cosmic muffin.

See ya!

The Third and Final Part of SoonerCon 2007's Program Book

The Oklahoma Friends of NRA chapter has been an advertiser since the SoonerCon reboot.  Various ConComm members have worked at some of their banquets and raised thousands of dollars in support of SoonerCon.

As you might have guessed, the retro-type fill art are from various image searches of the interwebs.

With the in-color inside and exterior rear covers, we conclude this share of SoonerCon 2007's Program Book.  Thanks for noshing on memories with me!

The Second Part of Soonercon 2007's Program Book

Pages 9-20.
Yes, "Sinnercon" was our dance, adults only.  I'm thankful that nowadays the dance is for all ages!  That way we're training a new generation, right?
More filler art provided by SoonerCon Immortal Friend Kevin Hopkins.

As you know, Keith Birdsong died in June, 2019.  This Okie artist is missed!
Bibliotech of Shawnee is another perennial and always-appreciated advertiser.

Ol' Larry has never chafed me about this nickname for him which I invented.  Larry, tell me to stop, and I will!  Promise!

I'd recently begun to work for the thrift store whose ad is above.  They were gracious enough to let the con borrow one of their box trucks.  Specifically, we used the truck as locked storage for con equipment -- a great boon, at the time.
Well, that's all for this installment, friends!  There're about 10-12 pages left.

The First Part of SoonerCon 2007's Program Book

SoonerCon 2007 was held June 8-9-10, 2007.  In some ways it was as big a gamble as SoonerCon 2006, the first "new" SoonerCon.  Had we made a good impression on fans and pros in 2006?  Would anybody come back?
Our understated, chilling cover is by the late Keith Birdsong.

PowerLift has been a SoonerCon sponsor since the beginning.

Here was a brief history page regarding the original SoonerCons.

That's all for this time!
