Time-Travellin' to 2010!

Here is some of the press generated to drum up the fever for SoonerCon 2010.  When we decided to help celebrate Yard Dog Press's 15th anniversary, one of us geniuses on the ConComm decided our con theme MUST be "A Bubba Odyssey," riffing off Clarke's 2001 sequel 2010 of course.  AND since we had joltin' Joe Lansdale, author of (among others) Bubba Ho-Tep.
Above is from the June 2, 2010 Gazette.
The above squib is from the June 2, 2010 Oklahoman.
This one's from the June 3rd Oklahoman.
The one above appeared in the June 4, 2010 Oklahoman.  Thanks to our good friend Matthew Price for plugging us then and later!
And re-presented here is the "Bubba flyer," featuring art by John Kaufman.

See you next time, fellow bubbas and bubbettes!

ThunderCon 7 Flyers!

ThunderCon 7 was May 30-31-June 1, 1997.
Here's the first flyer, which was one-sided.

The second flyer.  By now Biggs was confirmed, and Richard Hatch added to the roster.

Above is the third version of a ThunderCon 7 flyer.

And here is the fourth version of a ThunderCon 7 flyer.

Is four flyers a record for one con?  Probably not!  See ya next time.

Slideways to 2009

SoonerCon 2009 was the third of the revived Soonercon.  Here are some notes from its planning stages.
At a meeting in late 2008, we talked about a time-travel theme.  I came up with the phrase "Slideways in Time," and we went with it!
That ribbonlike graphic was tested on a demo flyer but not used.
Another spiffy idea from then-Chair Jerry wall:
... And its realization:
I don't know if anybody in the future will read the note and pop in ... we didn't take attendance.

See you next time, fellow fans of Central OK history!

SoonerCon 30 Wasn't Our First Homecoming!

In 1990 my future employer, the State of Oklahoma, gave a certificate to SoonerCon 2006 as "an official Oklahoma Homecoming '90 community."
It took me a whole 20 minutes to dig out the original and scan it. Aren't you proud and humble to have been part of a fine group of servants, for this long?

Non-Alternate Cover!

For SoonerCon 2008, before we went with Artist GOH Tom Kidd's illo "Cole Falls," seen below ...
... I used a different piece by Kidd to dummy up a possible PB cover in the style of the old-time Big Little Books:
Were you there for that spiffy con?

One Short Decade Ago ... At SoonerCon 22

SoonerCon 22 was June 28-30, 2013, at the Reed Center in Midwest City.  Among its many graces was the FIRST Class of the Speculative Fiction Hall of Fame.  The working name for this award, "the Nucleon," was my suggestion, and the name was soon rerouted to become the Art Show favorites' awards.

This fine coverage-in-advance is from the June 25, 2013 Oklahoman.  The semi-honorable (kidding) John Ferguson is a longtime OKC landmark and friend of the con.  Likewise CJ, who was a friend EVEN BEFORE SoonerCon.  She was here for us at BabelCon '81! But some pix including her, from 1986 and SoonerCon 1, may be found here.

Thanks for visiting more SoonerCon and OKC-fandom history.  It's where we came from!
