This DVD review from yours semi-truly wrapped up the January GG.  How could we know how many-or-few issues were left!

PS the "resurrection" is a semi-cheat, because just a year later SoonerCon returned.  Hooray!

October 2000: Monsters at the Fan Fair

In October 2000, STAR OKC had a sort of open house which we called a "Fan Fair."

And here is the Galactic Gazette distributed at the meeting.

I was kind of proud that I found the illo next to Paul Cherry's byline.  Doesn't the being-sttrangled guy look a little like Scooter?

Brian Hopkins was our Special Guest.

By now you guys should have figured out who Professor S O'Terrick is/was.

Now it can be told!  "Raul Dominguez" is a nom de plume of yours truly.  And the imitation scholarship ain't THAT bad.

The grandkids have endured these scary jokes.  Feel free to inflict them upon your acquaintances too.

April Fools from 1983!

Yep, in 1983 the Galactic Gazette waren't around, instead the official organ of STAR OKC was a one-sheet generated by the only person who cared enough to do something. Guess who?

Those Silly Teenagers!

It's an article from the September 6, 1976 Oklahoma City Times. Surprised, ain'tcha!

... surprised that fans never eat?  Nah, many of you youngsters don't remember a time when OKC had several newspapers!

I must confess that to my recollection, both Maxwell and Renee Upton weren't in STAR OKC by the time I came along around 1980.  Do you think they grew up?  Heaven forbid!

NOSFAratu and Russell Bates

Presented by the Norman Oklahoma Science Fiction Association, and sponsored by Southside/Planet Comics, it was NOSFAratu.

I don't remember a dang thing about it.  The month or day?  Nope.  However, I have proof that i was there!

You see, the briefcase was mine, and the stuff you see on it was the stuff I was trying to sell.  That means I had a dealer's table.  Oh, and the guy making like a model for an instant-camera commercial?  That's the late lamented Russell Bates, native Oklahoman and author of the STTAS episode "How Sharper Than a Serpent's Tooth."  I'd met him at BabelCon 1 in 1980, when he was bemused by my Vulcan character Selik.  You can learn more about Russell and Selik by typing that name "Selik" in the search bar at the left.

As you may imagine, these are from that storied US Bicentennial year.  Also before yours truly came upon the scene, so I can provide no further context.

No cracks about the spelling, please.  These were high-school kids, and it took a lot of time to stencil those letters, in the days when 'desktop publishing" involved a typewriter and money for the library's copier.
