The December 2000 GALACTIC GAZETTE

Happy two decades ago!
A sci-fi Santa welcomes you to the Christmas party.
Prez Paul Cherry surveys his domain.

And the rest of the issue is mahvelous content from a flooby-licious gal.

Have a prosperous and safe anno 2021!

Postcard Flyer for SoonerCon 2006 -- The Bold Experiment!

I just came across this postcard flyer as a bookmark in a book I read in 2006.

I did not remember this flyer.  The physical card has some writing on the backside, which I have clumsily tried to remove.

What a big gamble this was in 2006!  2006 chair Jerry Wall said it was nagging from John Hughes and me that prompted his decision to start a con -- and I got acquiescence from the original's founders to use the name.  A legend REBORN!

Were you there?

Happy October from 1984!

The October, 1984 Galactic Gazette.
The cute Halloween cover art is by 1984 Prez Tamara Baker.
Tamara is the new Prez because 1984's first Prez, Larry Jones, bugged out.  The next Prez, the wonderful Tammy Bothel, was in high school and didn't feel up to giving STAR the attention it demanded (take that description as you will).  So the once-humble Secretary ascended upon high (not the first time I believe).
You're not missing anything by not being able to read my book review of Melinda Snodgrass's STAR TREK novel The Tears of the Singers.  Just by the title, you know it's depressing fangirl stuff.
Filler is not one of my inventions, as documented above.
As seen above and forgotten until now, yours truly was harangued into becoming the Prez of Vice, one of myriads of times he held such august positions.
This was a proposed revamp (and veritable streamlined beauty) of the STAR OKC constitution.
The Constitution-class constitution concludes, and this month's GG fades into the sunset.

See you out there hoppin' galaxies!

Two Flyers from the 1980s

This blue flyer, with art by JR Daniels, looks like one of those Mac-designed publications.   I don't know who produced it.

In the art in the bottom left-hand corner, L-R, are Paul Cherry (RIP), Mike Moery, and Paul "Pablo" Stewart.  I can't read the signature -- any suggestions?

See ya round the galaxy!  That's all for now!

The Rest of ThunderCon 1's Program Book!

As you'll recall, ThunderCon 1 (Larry's Media Con) was held May 31, June 1-2, 1991.

The Quantum Leap zine was worked on by our still-current SoonerCon guest/panelist Julie Barrett.
Seems to me that what was called IFGS in 1992 is known nowadays as LARPing!

I can assure you that the above ad has expired.

Above is the inside rear cover.
This is the back cover of the Program Book.  Yes, ThunderCon 2 roared down the Okie plains the next year.  You'll have to wait awhile to see what happened then ...

Thanks for stopping by!

The First Half of ThunderCon 1 (1991) Program Book

 Spiffy art by Kevin Hopkins.

Also known as "Larry's Media Con," ThunderCon was established as a balance to SoonerCon, which was a "lit con," by design, at the time.

Boy, wasn't he skinny in 1991?!  Weren't you?

And by the way, Serendipity, the club whose ad is above, is still alive and thrilling!

Fun for all!

The January 1991 GALACTIC GAZETTE

On page 2 you can read the officers for 1991.  There's lots of coverage of the upcoming ThunderCon 1.

The "ThunderPage" logo at the top of the page was my own device ...

The poor contrast of some images is acknowledged, but that's all we got!  PS yes, that's Gerald "Captain Coconut" Burton making a cameo appearance in the cartoon on the last page.

See ya round the galaxy!
