SoonerCon 3 -- October 16-18, 1987 -- Program Book

Cover art is by David Cherry, our artist GOH.  Thanks to Mike Hodge & Leonard Bishop for the info.

Our charity was the Oklahoma Pediatric Cancer Association, which does not seem to exist any more under that name.  Does anybody know if it changed names, or went dormant?

Con Chair was Casey Means (nee Hamilton); Mike Hodge was STAR OKC President.

 Art by David Lee Anderson.

Conquest  is still alive and kicking!
 Art by Dell Harris.
Note the page header, "SoonerKin."  This was an appellation coined to refer to main guests from previous SoonerCons.  This status enabled them to get in free to future SoonerCons (free admission only).  Some STAR members thought this was giving away future possible revenue, others thought it was a nice gesture.

Who was the artist for the bottom of this page?  Was it Angela (Bostick) Lowry?
Now we have bios for "Programming Speakers."  Also note the ad for "Southside Comics" in Norman, later Planet Comics.

  Art by Dell Harris.
As was SoonerCon tradition, the outside cover of the Program Book was an ad for next year's show.  We already had our all-female line-up lined up!

More items to come from SoonerCon 3 include badges, flyers, attendee surveys, and others.

SoonerCon 2 Pocket Program, Flyer, Questionnaire

Here are the last of the items from SoonerCon 2, held in October, 1986.

SoonerCon 2 was held only a few months after SoonerCon 1 so that a "standard" date for the Con could be established.  We wanted to have a late fall/early winter con, and it just wouldn't do to go a year until the following fall.

So people dashed around like mad to have  a SECOND SoonerCon about four months after the first.  This was the main reason for only having two "official" days -- Saturday and Sunday.  Also why this con was promoted as "Pure Con Extract" by Con Chair David Means.

I really don't know the source for the lab-rat-in-spacesuit concept for the badges.

Even though the "Friday" schedule -- nothing but video -- begins with "10AM," I am pretty sure that this room started at  10PM, and then ran 24 hours until Sunday afternoon.

Here's the questionnaire distributed to con attendees in the hopes of defining our demographics/audience.  Maybe someday we will run across the findings from these.

Next time, in a month or so ... SoonerCon 3.

A ConComm list from July, three months before the con.

A Dealer badge.

More on the way from SoonerCon 2 in a week or two.

1986 - SoonerCon 2 Complete Program Book

 Cover art by Keith Berdak.

In case you wonder how we could have only 22 interior pages -- 22 not being a multiple of 4 -- it's because each page was an individual 8 1/2-x-11 inch sheet of paper, and the pages were stapled together.

Despite the notation on the back cover, never again was a SoonerCon held at the Skirvin.

Later on I'll post the flyer, badges, attendee questionnaire, and so on.

Hope you enjoy the read!
